Tokisada NAKAMURA (Masatoshi) 　1915 - 2001
He was born into the family of temple and shrine carvers. His teacher was his father, Musoan Kuya, a carver of Netsuke and Buddhist images. Masatoshi is also known as the “founder of modern Netsuke” as he pioneered the modern Netsuke of today.
